Implementing HBIM for Cultural Heritage Preservation – From Documentation to Sustainable
Management
Workshop Overview
A practical, accessible introduction to Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) based on the
real digital documentation workflow of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Worms Synagogue”.
The workshop combines practical demonstration roles (architect, conservator and asset manager)
provided by the AI MAINZ, and strategic insight into how HBIM supports documentation,
conservation planning, operation and long-term monitoring of a heritage asset.
Workshop Goals
Participants will be introduced to:
• The responsible municipal authorities’ expectations regarding data delivery, naming
conventions, and use of the CDE (Catenda Hub as example)
• Typical roles of external specialists within an HBIM-based workflow (Archicad and Revit
data exchange)
• How survey data, expert analyses, monitoring results, and conservation documentation are
integrated into a shared digital model
• How heritage-specific requirements such as authenticity, historical value, and conservation
decisions are documented without over-modelling
• A practical demonstration of commissioning, model delivery, validation, and use of HBIM
data by the city as asset manager (Issue Management in Solibri as an example)
Outcome
The workshop will establish a common understanding of workflows, responsibilities, and next
steps, supporting transparent and coordinated collaboration between the involved authorities and
external specialists (inter alia engineers) in on historical objects.
